Miss Donna L Jern
Welcome to my Bloom High School web page.  As a parent or student you will be able to check up on what is going on in my classes.  Parents, if you click on the "Grades" button on the left side you can track your students' progress in my class (see below for more details).

To tell you a little about myself, I am a 1999 graduate of Oak Forest High School and a 2003 graduate of Illinois College in Jacksonville, IL (BA in History).  Recently I completed an online Masters in Education (curriculum and Instruction) degree with NOVA Southeastern University.  I have been teaching social studies at Bloom High School since the fall of 2004.  I am involved in the School Improvement Committee as the chair of the sub-committee for Classroom Walk-Throughs.  I participate in the After School Tutoring program (Monday through Thursday 3:10-4:00 in the library) when I am not teaching credit recovery for World and U.S. History.  I am also a teaching member of the Freshman Academy as well as one of the Teacher Leaders.  I am located in room 207 just down the hall from the library.

GRADES:
Students and parents are expected to check posted grades through the Bloom website. Grades will no longer be posted in the classroom.  Click on the "Grades" button to the left and log in.  You should be able to see all assignments.
  • Grade Codes: A - Absent (can make up work according to Handbook policy); L - Late (freshman 1st semester only, can make up work one day late for half credit); M - Missing (cannot make up); C - Copied/Cheated (cannot make up); D - Dropped (score was dropped as if the assignment does not exist for the student due to a positive reward).  A, L, M, and C codes all count a 0 points.
  • Explanation of Grade: Daily work: 60%; Quizzes/Tests/Exams: 30%; Behavior/Attendance: 10%
  • District Assessments: Mid-Term counts as a regular test score in the term 2 grade.  The Final Exam is 20% of the students cumulative grade.
  • Cumulative Grade: each Term and the Final Exam all count towards 20% of the cumulative (end of course) grade
  • Grade Scale:as per the Social Studies department, the following grade scale is used for Honors and AP courses: 93%-100% = A, 85%-92% = B, 77%-84% =C, 70%-76% =D, below 70% is failing (E). All other courses use: 90%-100% = A, 80%-89% = B, 70%-79% =C, 60%-67% =D, below 60% is failing.
  • Missing Tests: if a student is present on test day they must take the test.  If they are absent on test day the make-up test will be placed in the library to be taken in After School Tutoring.  The student will have 2 weeks from the original test day to take it.  In the mean time their school will be coded A (see above), if it is not made up the code will change to M (see above).
